      NMU skiers set to compete at NCAA Championships

      The Northern Michigan University Nordic skiing team travels to Soldier Hallow Resort in Midway, Utah this week for the NCAA Skiing Championships beginning with the classic race Thursday (March 6) and the freestyle race on Saturday (March 8)

      Representing the Wildcats on the men's side are: junior Kyle Bratrud, freshman Adam Martin and freshman Fredrik Schwencke. Senior George Cartwright will serve as an alternate for the squad.

      Competing for NMU on the women's side are: senior Rosie Frankowski, sophomore Mary Kate Cirelli and sophomore Hannah Boyer.

      The Wildcats will have experience on their side as Bratrud and Frankowski earned All-American status at the 2013 NCAA Skiing Championships. Frankowski was seventh in the freestyle race while Bratrud was 10 th .

      NMU last competed on Feb. 15-16 at the NCAA Regional Championships in Houghton, Mich. The Wildcats swept the Regional Championship with the men scoring 129 points while the women scored 128.

      Bratrud won the men's classic race and finished second in the freestyle race, while Cartwright won the freestyle race. Cartwright, Martin and Schewencke placed sixth through eighth in the classic race while Martin and Schwencke were sixth and seventh in the freestyle race.

      On the women's side, Rosie Frankowski won both the classic and freestyle races while Boyer was third in both races. Junior Felicia Geisor (seventh) and Cirelli (eighth) rounded out the top 10 for the Wildcats in the classic race while Cirelli finished sixth in the freestyle race and freshman Kristen Bourne was ninth.

      Following the NCAA Regional Championships, the Central Collegiate Ski Association announced that head coach Sten Fjeldheim was named the CCSA Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's squads.
