CANTON , Ohio â??The Northern Michigan University soccer team concluded its regular season of play against Malone University on Sunday (Nov. 3) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Wildcats took the game, 3-0 in Canton, Ohio.
The Wildcats first goal came at 27:10 by freshman Paula Hafner for her eighth goal of season. Juniors Haley Boroughf and Nicole Musi assisted on the play. Just over two minutes later (29:50), Musi knocked in a goal from a corner kick by Hafner. NMU went into the break with the 2-0 lead.
The score remained 2-0 for much of the second half until the 83:31 mark when sophomore Gabriella Garza notched her first goal of the season. The shot was assisted by Boroughf and freshman Carmen Villarruel .
The Wildcats finished with 19 shots, including six on goal. Hafner had five shots, and Garza had four. Malone had just four shots on the night, with no shots on goal.
NMU continues play in Ohio on Tuesday (Nov. 5) at 2 p.m. The Wildcats faces Ashland University in the first round of the GLIAC tournament.
