COLUMBUS , Ohio ?? The Northern Michigan University soccer team fell in its first game of the weekend 1-0 in overtime to Ohio Dominican in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. NMU is now 4-7-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play.
Kelly Johnson scored the game-winner 35 seconds into the extra session on her only shot of the game. The unassisted tally came on a free ball in front of the net.
Going into overtime, NMU held a 13-12 edge in shots over the Panthers. Each goalkeeper tallied five saves in regulation and each team had four fouls.
Sophomore Hailey Beyrand finished the evening with three shots, two on goal. Senior KC McCary, freshman Paula Hafner and junior Nicole Musi each had two shots on the night. NMU totaled five shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Simmons ended the game with five saves.
For ODU (8-4-2, 5-3-1 GLIAC), Broegan Sautter had three shots with Megan Augusta and Lauren Pratt each with two. The Panthers finished with six shots on goal. Goalkeeper Laura Clark stopped five Wildcat shots.
Northern continues play in Ohio on Sunday (Oct. 20) with a trip to Ashland. The Eagles defeated Michigan Tech 1-0 on Friday.
