ASHLAND , Ohio ?? The Northern Michigan University soccer team fell in its second game of the weekend on Sunday (Oct. 20) in Ashland. The Eagles took the game, 5-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Wildcats are now 4-8-1 and 4-3-1 in the conference.
Ashland (8-4-2, 7-2-1 GLIAC) got on the board at 21:58 on an unassisted shot by Haley Frick into the back left corner of the net. The second goal came under two minutes later (23:11) as Maddy Smith scored on the header on a pass from Katelyn Peterson.
Allison Richards scored the third goal for the Eagles and Maddy Smith added a second goal in the first half to give the Eagles the 4-0 lead at the break.
Ashland's final goal came in the second half at 54:07 on Firck's second goal of the game.
NMU's Alexandra Simmons had five saves between the pipes on the afternoon and Rebecca Plescia finished with three for the Eagles.
Freshman Paula Hafner, sophomore Ashley Katers, junior Taylor Smith and sophomore Gabriella Garza each tallied one shot for the Wildcats.
NMU returns to Marquette next weekend for its final home series of the season. Ferris State visits on Friday (Oct. 25) and Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 27).
