ALLENDALE, Mich. ?? The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team wrapped up its opening weekend of competition on Saturday (Oct. 12) with a 138-105 loss at Grand Valley State University.
Debbi Lawrence won three events on the day. She took the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.54) and set a pool record in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 52.03. She was also on the winning 200 medley relay team with sophomore Crystal Bennet and juniors Madisen Sechena and Emily Bourguignon.
Junior Emily Brennan won the 500 freestyle in 5:17.59 and finished second in the 200 IM. Madisen Sechena added her own first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.19) and was second in the 200 butterfly.
Junior Tara Dowling had a first place finish in the 1,000 freestyle (11:06.05) while junior Dakota Sechana was third in the event. Dowling also placed fourth in the 500 freestyle.
Junior Molly Kearney placed second in both diving events on the day.
Bennet and junior Jordan Iverson scored with second place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Junior Emily Bourguignon was third in the 200 backstroke. Freshman Rachel Borchardt placed fourth in the 200 butterfly.
Senior Meghan Cepela was fourth and freshman Courtney Konopitski was fifth in the 50 frestyle. Konopitski was also fourth in the 100 freestlye.
The Wildcats host St. Cloud State and Minnesota State-Moorhead from The PEIF Pool next weekend (Oct. 18-19).
