The Northern Michigan University volleyball team lost a close match against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers on Tuesday (Sep. 17) evening from DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Wildcats won set one 25-20, and the Rangers took the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-22, respectively. NMU sent the match into a fifth set by taking set four, 25-19. UWP edged NMU in the final set, 19-17 for the victory.
Senior Lina Lopes tallied 20 kills and senior Kalli Herron had 18. As a team, the Wildcats finished with 67 total kills for a .161 attack percentage. Sophomore Alex Berger led the defense with 22 digs, Lopes added 15 and freshman Meghan Supple and senior Kellisha Harley each had 13. Harley also ended the night with 48 assists.
For the Rangers, Rebecca Roembke had 12 kills to contribute to the team's 47 total kills for a .149 attack percentage. Sarah Mlachnik led with 24 digs and Lauren Hickson added 15.
The Wildcats return home this weekend for its first two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches. NMU takes on Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Sep. 20) at 7 p.m. and Lake Superior State University on Saturday (Sep. 21) at 1 p.m.
