Junior Christina Toogood of the Northern Michigan University track and field team qualified for finals of the NCAA Indoor Championships after her performance in the preliminary race on Friday.
"Christina ran an awesome race today. It was an extremely strong field and we knew she had to run very well to make it into the finals," said assistant coach Jenny Ryan. "She ran smart and finished strong."
Toogood placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.24, breaking her own NMU record by three seconds with a career best performance.
Toogood will compete in the finals of the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday along teammate Cheyenne Steweart who competes in the triple jump.
