North Dakota's Johnson interviews for NMU AD job

The third finalist to become NMU's Athletic Director has made his pitch to the public and university.

Sean Johnson has been a senior associate athletic director at the University of North Dakota for the past three and a half years.

Johnson has been instrumental in updating the branding at North Dakota.

North Dakota has seen plenty of success in sports with conference championships in basketball, football and hockey.

He also has experience in various capacities in previous jobs at Texas A&M at Kingsville and New Mexico State.

"One of the things you like to do is bring more events to Marquette," says Johnson. "I know you had a wrestling meet against a team from Japan. What an opportunity to bring people from Japan to Marquette to experience what you are about. It's good for the university, it's good for the city, those people in hotel rooms. How can you leverage more events to come to Marquette? You've got great facilities here."

Johnson says you have to start with a plan that has four or five big ideas and work from there.

NMU hopes to have a new athletic director named by May 1.
