BAY CITY , Mich. ?? The Michigan Tech men's basketball team has been selected third in the North Division in the GLIAC Preseason Poll that was announced on Thursday (Nov. 7). Guards Austin Armga and Ben Stelzer were selected to the North Division Preseason Teams.
Tech received 148 points after finishing 21-9 in 2012-13. The Huskies advanced to the regional semifinal last season and have won back-to-back GLIAC North Division titles.
Armga was named to the preseason first team and is the top returning scorer after averaging 12.5 points in 27.9 minutes per game in 2012-13. The senior from Waupun, Wis., started 21 of the 25 games he played and shot 56.6 percent from the field and 92.4 percent from the free throw line.
Stelzer, a preseason second team selection, started all 30 games last season and scored a dozen points per game while shooting 45.6 percent from behind the three-point arc and 91.2 percent from the charity stripe. The junior from Manitowoc, Wis., made 2.8 threes while playing 33.1 minutes per game and was named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team.
Wayne State was selected as the top team in the North Division with 172 points. Grand Valley State (158) was also ranked above Tech. Ferris State (129) and Lake Superior State (87) rounded out top five picks from the North. Northwood (79), Saginaw Valley State (61) and Northern Michigan (30) were selected at the bottom of the division.
Findlay was the top choice in the South Division with 192 points. Hillsdale (152), Walsh (140), Malone (109) and Ashland (104) were the other top five picks in the South. Tiffin (77), Lake Erie (45) and Ohio Dominican (35) rounded out the division.

Tech opens the regular season on Nov. 16, hosting Minnesota Duluth at 4 p.m. at the SDC Gym.
