Tech Women's Hoops Falls in Double OT to No. 7 Indianapolis

Mon, 31 Dec 2012 07:28:32 GMT — Paige Albi and Jillian Ritchie each recorded a double-double for Michigan Tech in a 78-74 double overtime loss to No. 7 Indianapolis Sunday (Dec. 30).Albi recorded career-highs in both points (17) and rebounds (14). Ritchie scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds."We fought and played hard today," said head coach Kim Cameron. "We can't fault our effort. We need to learn to hold and play with a lead."The Huskies led for the majority of the first half and took a one point lead, 39-38, into the locker room. The Greyhounds held their largest lead of the second half at five points after their third straight lay-up at 13:39.Tech answered with an 8-1 run to lead by five, 58-53, with nine minutes remaining.Down four points with 90 seconds remaining, Jillian Ritchie drained a 3-pointer to pull Tech within one. After Indy missed a pair of shots, Sam Hoyt made the first of two free throws to tie the score at 64 with 48 seconds remaining.Emma Veach blocked a shot by Katy McIntosh on Indy's following possession. The Huskies were unable to score on either of their shots forcing the game to overtime.The two teams would each score four points in the first overtime sending the game to a second.Emma Veach scored the first points of the second overtime with a 3-pointer two minutes in for Tech. Indy answered with two field goals and made all four of its free throws.Jillian Ritchie once again gave the Huskies some life with a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to pull the Huskies within two, 76-74.Indianapolis iced the win with a pair of free throws.Sam Hoyt finished with a team-high 22 points and three of the team's seven blocks. Emma Veach tallied seven points, seven rebounds, three rebounds, three blocks and three steals.Katy McIntosh led the Greyhounds with a game-high 26 points.Tech shot 30-percent (28-94) from the floor and 63-percent (10-16) from the free throw line.Indy shot 43-percent (28-66) from the floor and 74-percent (20-27) from the free throw line.Tech (7-3) will hosts Lake Erie Thursday (Jan. 3).
