The Detroit Tigers hired Brad Ausmus as the new team manager. Ausmus will be replacing former manager Jim Leyland, according to Adam Spolane of SportsRadio 610 and FoxSports' Ken Rosenthal.
Ausmus is a former major league catcher. He spent 18 years in the majors, including three with the Tigers during the 1996 and 1999-2000 seasons. This will be his first stint in a professional managerial position.
The 44 year old served as the manager for Team Israel this spring in the qualifying round of the World Baseball Classic.
Ausmus was the sixth candidate interviewed for the position.
He is expected to finalize his contract on Sunday.
