      Updated: Gladstone Braves baseball and softball still alive in state semifinals

      The Gladstone Braves softball and baseball teams both defeated Muskegon Oakridge to advance to the Division 3 state semifinals at Michigan State University.

      The Braves, behind pitcher Hunter Garling, defeated the Eagles in dramatic fashion. The bases were loaded for Muskegon Oakridge in the top of the seventh inning, until the Eagle's James Abriatis flied out to Ben Schwalbach to end the game. Don Lauscher's club won 3-2. This is the program's first appearance in the semifinals.

      The Gladstone softball team defeated Muskegon Oakridge behind Jessica Beaudry's bases-clearing double. Tinner Sharon pitched a complete game, and the team had little trouble with the Eagles. They won 5-1.

      In Division 4, the Norway Knights baseball team fell 5-2 to Maple City Glen Lake. The Knights faced the Lakers' stud pitcher and Xavier University commit, Thomas Waning, on the mound. Norway finished their season with a 13-9 record.

      **The Gladstone Braves baseball team will be at Newpage, the Super Value store in Gladstone and the Elmer's County Market in Escanaba to raise money for their trip to East Lansing Wednesday, June 11.
