      US Olympic Training Site Wrestler earns gold

      Kendrick Sanders, Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestler, won a gold medal Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Dave Schultz Memorial International at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Sanders, of Homestead, Fla., defeated former NMU-OTS athlete Bo Beckman in the 71-kilogram weight class finals.

      Curt Calovecchi of Marquette, took fourth place at 80 kg. Also finishing fourth was recent OTS alumnus Mark Stenberg of the New York Athletic Club, at 85 kg.

      Two OTS athletes took sixth place. Anthonie Linares of San Jose, Calif., at 71 kg., and Parker Betts of St. Michael, Minn., at 130 kg.

      The event included athletes from China, Japan, Kazakhstan and Switzerland and U.S. athletes from the Army, Marines, as well as several club teams.
