      Veterans cruise in NMU Volleyball intrasquad match

      Green defeated Gold, 3-0 on Tuesday (Aug. 27) in the annual Northern Michigan University volleyball intrasquad match from Vandament Arena. Green won 25-11, 25-16 and 25-15.

      Head coach Dominic Yoder and assistant coach Mandie Meyer led the Green team, while assistant Inga Kurgonaite coached Gold.

      "Both teams played hard tonight," said Yoder. "We still need to continue to work on our serve reception and gain consistency on defense across the board."

      Senior Sarah Hamilton led the Green squad with 10 kills. Seniors Lina Lopes (9) and Kalli Herron (8) helped lead the offense. Senior Kellisha Harley tallied 31 assists, while sophomore Alex Berger led the defense with eight digs.

      Gold was led by sophomore Lisa Studnicka and freshman Megan Crane, who tallied eight and six kills, respectively. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hoffman set up the offense with 17 assists. Sophomore Lindsey Keough and freshman Megan Dahl tallied 10 digs apiece.

      After this weekend's scrimmage at the University of Minnesota Duluth, the Wildcats open up the season on Sept. 6-7 at the University of West Florida Invite with four matches in Pensacola, Fla.
