A line of thunderstorms originating over central Wisconsin sped northeastward at 40 to 50mph and swept through central Upper Michigan early this evening. There were several incidents of trees down from Iron River and Peavey Falls in Iron County on up to Witch Lake in southwest Marquette County. Scattered power outages were also reported. A trained National Weather Service spotter observed a 71mph wind gust 4 miles west of Marquette when the initial gust front moved through early this evening. A gust of 59mph was relayed from Granite Island out on Lake Superior north of Marquette.
More scattered showers and possible thunderstorms are expected during the night. With loss of heating from the sun, the thunderstorms will likely not be as intense. There is a risk of a repeat tomorrow as the pattern will not change much until Saturday.
