MARINETTE, Wis. (WBAY) - The Marinette teen accused in the drowning death of a 13-year-old has signed a proposed plea deal.

Court documents show Peyton Carnot is agreeing to plead no contest to Second-Degree Reckless Homicide, as Party to a Crime.

Carnot agrees to plead no contest in exchange for seven years in prison, followed by 10 years extended supervision. The maximum penalty he could face is 25 years and a $100,000 fine.

The judge still has to accept the plea agreement.

According to the criminal complaint, Carnot claimed it was 21-year-old Tylor Birch’s idea to throw 13-year-old Jakob Bowerman into the Menominee River back on August 20, 2025, knowing he couldn’t swim.

Carnot’s next court hearing is October 20.

Birch’s case is still pending. He has pleaded not guilty. A status conference is scheduled for November 19.
